Success Story - DCB (Kent) Ltd
Overview:
DCB (Kent) Limited are renowned for delivering high-quality building, refurbishment and maintenance services throughout Kent, Sussex, Essex and London. Established in 1998, the company has grown steadily year on year to become one of the leading independent contractors in the South East. DCB Kent is part of the Bilby Group, a leading building services company serving local authorities, housing associations and domestic customers in London and the South East. In early 2017, one of the companies in the group was hit by ransomware. Having seen the impact it had, DCB Kent began searching for ransomware protection to ensure the same situation didn’t happen to them.
Challenge:
Already a Sophos customer for around ten years, DCB immediately considered Sophos for ransomware protection when one of its sister companies experienced an attack in 2017. Alongside the threat of a ransomware attack, additional challenges included:
- Futureproofing for company growth
DCB is growing year on year by approximately 10% so the team there were keen to ensure any new solutions introduced would be futureproofed and scale as the company grew. - GDPR compliance
Also aware of new GDPR legislation, DCB needed IT security software that would tick the relevant boxes to ensure compliance.
Solution:
The DCB team approached their Sophos partner ADM Computing for advice. An Intercept X presentation was due to take place at the ADM Computing offices shortly after their enquiry so the DCB team went along, and decided to order the solution the day after it launched.
“Intercept X matched exactly what we needed,” says Paul Baker, Commercial Director at DCB. “Nothing gets through and we see a fair amount of traffic getting blocked each week.”
ADM Computing installed Intercept X at DCB without any challenges, and the team there log in remotely to make checks if they need to.
“For us Intercept X was something we needed to make happen,” says Paul. “We saw the impact of a ransomware attack at our sister company and realised it could happen to us too. The implications meant we couldn’t afford not to have it.”
In addition, DCB uses Sophos UTM alongside Sophos RED to connect remote offices and home workers to the headquarters. Sophos Endpoint Protection has also been in place at DCB for around ten years to protect the company from malware and advanced threats, such as targeted attacks.
